Analysis of factors affecting the compressive performance of corrugated boxes

Jun 17, 2023

The primary goal of the compressive function of corrugated boxes is compressive strength, which is the large load and deformation of corrugated boxes under uniform dynamic pressure applied by the pressure testing machine until the box is broken. So, what are the first factors that affect the change in this value? It should be considered from the following aspects:
1. The physical functional goal of the cardboard itself used to make the carton.
When the tensile strength of the corrugated cardboard used in the production of the carton is not good, it will cause the force value and deformation of the carton to increase smoothly in the compression test, resulting in only a high and low effective force value. At the same time, the waterproof function of cardboard is also very important, especially for refrigerated packaging of cartons, the waterproof function of cardboard requirements are higher, if the waterproof function of cardboard is not good, even if the compressive strength of the carton is very high, when the carton is stored in the cold storage, it is easy to absorb moisture and cause the box to collapse, and the problem of collapse is formed.
2. Reasonable design of carton production process.
After the surface, the production process of the carton will also have a certain impact on the compressive strength of the carton, take the cross-crimping line of the carton. Under the same conditions, for every 1mm added to the width of the crossline of the carton, the compressive strength of the carton will decrease by 90~130N, and the deformation will be increased by 2mm. That is to say, if the crimping line is too wide, the force value of the carton will be added slowly during the compression test, the effective force value is small, and the deformation amount is large. Therefore, in order to ensure the compressive strength of Kunshan corrugated carton, in addition to working cardboard, we also need to reasonably design the production process of the carton to minimize the impact of each process on the compressive strength of the carton.
