How to Use Corrugated Fruit Boxes?

For Produce Displays
Packaging cartons are frequently used in produce displays at supermarkets. The primary reason is that cardboard is a natural and healthy alternative to other materials -e.g. plastic. Furthermore, because most fruits and vegetables are transported to markets in fresh fruit cardboard boxes, it is simple to reuse the produce's original packaging.

For Shipping and Transportation
Organic items are often shipped and transported in corrugated produce boxes. Apart from being made of healthy material, the primary reason that cardboard picking bins are preferred in transportation is that due to their softer surface, things are less likely to be damaged and squished during transit. Fruit shipping boxes are thus the ideal option for shipment and transportation.

For Storage
Fruit cartons and veggie boxes are often used as a healthy way to store food. Retailers and shops typically prefer produce packaging boxes for vegetable produce and fruit packaging.

Fruit Box with Handle

What are the material types of Corrugated Fruit Boxes?

A Flute
This is the largest flute grade and offers the greatest level of protection and support. It is commonly used for heavy products, such as electronics or large appliances, as well as for products that require a lot of cushioning. A flute is the thickest flute grade and has a typical height of 1/8 inch to 3/16 inch.

B Flute
B flute is a medium-sized flute grade and is typically used for lighter products, such as books, toys, and smaller appliances. It provides good protection and cushioning and is more environmentally friendly than A flute due to its lower material usage. B flute is a medium-sized flute grade and has a typical height of 1/8 inch.

C Flute
This is the smallest flute grade and offers the least amount of protection and cushioning. It is commonly used for products that are not easily damaged and do not require a lot of cushioning, such as paper products, envelopes, and lightweight consumer goods.
C flute is the smallest flute grade and has a typical height of 3/16 inch to 1/4 inch.

E Flute
E flute is an even smaller flute grade and is used for products that require a high level of printing quality, such as folding cartons and boxes for cosmetic products. E Flute: E flute is an even smaller flute grade and has a typical height of 1/16 inch to 3/32 inch.

Common Types of Fruit Box

01/

Single-Phase Corrugated
Type of corrugated sheet consists of a single flute and one or two sheets of linear board. The flute is glued to the linear board. Single-phase corrugated are usually sold in the form of sheet rolls and are most commonly used to wrap around product for protection or cushioning.

02/

Single Wall Corrugated Box
Type of corrugated box consists of a one sheet of corrugated medium which is glued and placed between two sheets of liner board. This type of corrugated box has multiple uses in retail industries and as shipping boxes.

03/

Double Wallboard
Walled corrugated boxes consist of a two-layer of corrugated medium glued between three layers of liner board. Hence, it makes the box more rigid and can be used for packaging of heavy products or products which are more delicate. This type of corrugated is widely used in shipping of electronic products.

04/

Triple Wallboard
One which is strongest of all type of corrugated box consist of three layers of corrugated medium and four-layer of liner board. Triple wall corrugated boxes are mainly used in packaging of industrial parts due to their durability and higher burst strength.

The Considerations for Buying

Choose The Right Size
When it comes to selecting fruit packaging boxes, size is crucial. The right size of boxes for fruit would highly depend on which type of product you'll package. For example, if you're going to package apples, a cardboard apple box would be ideal, whereas peach boxes are the best choice for packaging peaches.

Consider The Quantity
Quality and quantity are both important factors when you decide to buy carton boxes. If you have a store or sell veggies and fruits, you probably need many boxes cartons. Usually, it is cheaper to buy cardboard produce boxes wholesale. Plus, you don't know when you'll need some extra cardboard fruit boxes; thus, having spare cartons is always ideal.

Protect Against Moisture
When selecting a vegetable box or fruit packaging box, ensure it is resistant to moisture. To protect your vegetables and fruits from moisture and dampness, you should use the proper wax lined boxes.

Ventilate Properly
Ventilation is important for the quality of food and other organic products. Therefore, for fruit and vegetables packaging, you should use cardboard fruit containers with proper ventilation.

Label Clearly
Since labelling is vital when selling items, you should always choose customisable fruit storage boxes and vegetables package. A suitable cardboard box will allow you to identify your products and offer them more effectively to customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are corrugated fruit boxes widely used by fruit farmers?

A: Why is corrugated the best packaging solution for agriculture and growers, especially fruit growers? As development and design with corrugated packaging has advanced and innovated over time, it’s been shown that it beats all other options time and time again, and for multiple reasons. Here’s why corrugated is the best packaging solution for fruit growers in particular.

Corrugated is food safe and hygienic
This is a top reason why companies and industries have adopted primary corrugated packaging, and why it is such a success. Besides corrugated material being manufactured in a way that prevents the carrying of harmful microbes or pathogens to begin with, the material is also heated up many times during the process to a temperature that completely eradicates these hazards. This process prevents them from passing on to food products as well as to the general public. Temperatures for manufacturing typically reach around 200˚F according to some sources.
This is an important thing to consider especially for fruit products. These, when compared to other food items like vegetables and animal products,  have a higher sugar content and thus can be very susceptible items to spoilage. In some cases, this can lead to pathogenic spread as well. In addition, wax coated corrugated products can both help reduce issues with product spoilage and loss while boosting the reusability and durability of your packaging.

Corrugated is single use
Corrugated solutions designed for single use – or fewer uses – is another aspect that helps the product act as a safe and food hygienic option, whether for holding or transport. Single use means that whenever the product comes into contact with food (meaning with potential pathogens as well) it can be disposed or recycled into the waste stream — and out into the food stream. Single use keeps any hazards well away from contaminating the public or the employees who handle it.
Single use is also incredibly space-efficient for any industry, and of course applies to the agricultural and fruit growing industries. Corrugated cardboard boxes, cartons, storage containers and more can be stored in flat sheets at a great volume in most facilities. Despite its compact nature, the actual volume of product corrugated packaging could hold is far greater than what it takes up when stored. With corrugated pieces only needing to be assembled to full, usable size, this makes corrugated far more competitive than non-collapsible packaging containers of any material.

Corrugated packaging is widely adaptable
Nothing is more affordable and adaptable for fruit produce packaging than corrugated. A wide variety of sizes, shapes, designs, purposes, volumes and the like can be found across the industry. For any specific product or market, you can bet there’s already a corrugated packaging model out there tailored for a product’s optimal storage and transport. As you may know, you can find containers designed for citrus, strawberries, broccoli or anything else! While price may vary from product to product — depending on the size or type needed for packaging — corrugated options still manage to keep things price-effective and similar in costs, no matter the size or design.
Most importantly, these products are expertly crafted for optimal product weight and storage, whether for simply holding or transporting these products, and in ways that cut down on damage or spoilage. Ventilation, corrugated thickness, strength, shape, and more are each vital details that are expertly and professionally considered during the manufacturing process. These benefits are always passed on to the grower, and are then in-turn passed on to the consumer.

Corrugated is excellent for branding
Custom designs for corrugated allow for growers and companies to make the best use of branding and marketing. Boxes and cartons can bear logos, product information, company information and other useful information that are each just as cost-effective for marketing as they are for the practical uses and purposes of corrugated. Logos are especially effective and affordable add-ons to corrugated packaging. Compared to other options that involve plastic or other more semi-permanent materials, your company can advertise its image cheaply, impactfully and professionally, and in a way that effortlessly ties marketing costs into your enterprise’s more practical operations.
Is your company changing its image or logo. How about altering pertinent information about your product on its packaging. Making these changes to corrugated packaging is simpler and more affordable than replacing any branding associated with reusable or multi-use packaging. Since corrugated packaging— especially first-use corrugated— can be recycled back into manufacturing and production streams, a change of brand image and logo means no waste or lost materials. This also means reduced loss of marketing or packaging costs for both your company, and reduced stress to natural resources.

Corrugated is sustainable and recyclable
Corrugated continues to be one of the most earth-friendly packaging options you can support, especially if you source from a company with responsible sourcing practices. Corrugated options qualify not only as sustainable but also as better for the livelihood of forests, since ethical forestry practices naturally fosters the health of forests and timber.
Compared to plastic, Styrofoam  and other resources, the use of corrugated— when done properly— can have a net positive impact on the environment, cutting down on pollution and landfill space . It can also have a positive impact on preserving resources. Most corrugated packaging options are also completely recyclable. Corrugated remains one of the most easily renewable and reusable materials, and is widely recycled nationwide and beyond.

For many reasons, corrugated packaging remains the best option and a superior choice for fruit growers, food producers and the agricultural market here in the Central Valley and around the world.

Q: Why Use Corrugated Fruit Boxes?

A: Apart from the fact that it is the conventional packaging method, there are other reasons why you should prefer cardboard produce boxes for packaging.

Cost-Effective
Cardboard product boxes are low-cost items since they are composed of inexpensive materials. As a result, you can get a lot of produce boxes wholesale at a reasonable price.

Customizable
Fruit and vegetable boxes can be completely customised. You can order your fruit and veg boxes in any colour and shape.

Q: What are the characteristics of Corrugated Fruit Boxes?

A: An open top for easy and quick packing and removal of products.
A straight design that ensures the box can be easily stacked and unstacked from pallets, thus avoiding possible product spillage and slippage.
Interlocking style and handles on two sides for added stability, safety and peace of mind.
The double-wall food grade cardboard makes the trays extremely durable and perfectly stackable. In addition to saving time and space, they are especially practical for express shipments.
Provision boxes are specifically designed for refrigerated and ambient supply chains.
Sustainability at the core
Provision boxes are made of 100% recyclable corrugated cardboard, made from recycled fibers, and are 5 mm thick, with a paper quality of 100 g/m². The material is very durable and one of its main features is that it can be reused several times, which makes it an excellent solution for moving house, when having produce boxes will be very useful and cost-effective.

Q: Why choose Corrugated Fruit Boxes as your fruit packaging?

A: Packaging options for dry or fresh vegetable and fruit packaging materials can be used. The choice of material may vary depending on the product's characteristics and the storage period. Commonly used packaging materials include paper, cardboard, corrugated cardboard, plastic films, stretch films, and various biological materials.
Corrugated cardboard is among the widely preferred materials for packaging fruits and vegetables. Corrugated cardboard is a durable, environmentally friendly and recyclable material. It also prevents products from being damaged and provides air circulation.
Plastic materials are not disposable, like corrugated cardboard. They create a suitable environment for microorganisms because they are used many times, and the micro-cracks on the surface provide a suitable environment. For this reason, corrugated cardboard packaging is more hygienic than plastic alternatives. In addition, the recycling rate of plastic is lower than corrugated cardboard. Plastic packaging is not environmentally friendly and leaves residue for a long time when thrown into nature. For these reasons, the use of plastic packaging materials has been tried to be reduced in recent years.
Corrugated cardboard offers many advantages over plastic materials. It keeps the products fresh, is environmentally friendly and recyclable. It also protects during the transportation and storage of products. Corrugated cardboard costs much less than glass, plastic and wood alternatives. For this reason, products made of corrugated cardboard are an ideal option for packaging fruits and vegetables.

Q: What is the environmental impact of choosing Corrugated Fruit Boxes?

A: Packaging can have a severe environmental impact if not done correctly. However, packaging materials produced with a sustainable production approach protect the environment and ensure safe transportation and storage of products. In particular, corrugated cardboard, as a recyclable material, offers an environmentally friendly packaging option. Corrugated cardboard is frequently used to produce fresh fruit and vegetable boxes. These boxes are used to transport vegetables and fruits from fields to markets. Produced with a sustainable production approach, these boxes are produced from renewable natural resources and can be reused thanks to their recyclable features. In addition, the fresh fruit and vegetable box made of corrugated cardboard is light and durable, which reduces transportation and storage costs while minimizing its impact on the environment.

The use of corrugated cardboard boxes as a packaging solution has numerous sustainable benefits, including recyclability, biodegradability, reusability, and a low carbon footprint.

Q: What are the paper types for Corrugated Fruit Boxes?

A: One of the key factors that define the properties of the corrugated material is the types of paper used.
Despite cardboards’ widespread use, there are 2 main types of paper that are generally used for the liners. These are known as Kraft and Test liners.
Kraft paper is manufactured from softwood trees. Due to the “virgin” fibres, it is both the easiest to print on and also the strongest type of paper. As a result, it is the most commonly used outside liner when selecting material to produce corrugated boxes and packaging.
Test paper (sometimes called Duplex Paper) is actually a double layered paper. Being recycled, Test paper is less costly than Kraft paper though it is not as strong as Kraft, or easy to print on, so is commonly used for the inside liner.
Each liner type is actually comprised of two distinct layers. A basic layer is used adhesion and strength, whilst a finer “cover” layer is used mainly for improved aesthetics and to aid printing.
Whilst Kraft and Test liners are the most popular, there are a number of other options available for outer and inner liners when manufacturing cardboard:
KRAFT (K): Virgin Kraft paper
TEST 2 (T2): Partly recycled liner paper
TEST 3 (T):  Fully recycled liner
CHIP (C): Waste based liners
FULLY BLEACHED WHITE (BW): Fully bleached Kraft liner
WHITE TOP (WT): White coated recycled liner
MOTTLED KRAFT (MK): Mottled white Kraft
OYSTER (OY): Mottled test liner

Q: What is meant by corrugated box?

A: A corrugated box is a disposable container whose sides are made up of an inside layer, outer layer, and middle layer of material. As with all manufacturing and shipping equipment, corrugated boxes are designed and engineered to determine what they can hold, how much they can hold, and their strength.

Q: What is difference between cardboard box and corrugated box?

A: Corrugated board is typically made of at least three layers: two outer layers of linerboard, and an inner layer of fluted (wavy) medium. Cardboard only has one layer: a thin, stiff pasteboard.

Q: What is the importance of using corrugated packaging for fruits?

A: Packaging condition is critical. Corrugated trays keep fruit fresher and safer than reusable plastic containers (RPCs) because corrugated significantly reduces microbial cross contamination.

Q: Are corrugated boxes safe for food?

A:Yes, corrugated boxes are safe for food. These boxes are popular due to their ability to prevent foodborne pathogens. Making corrugated boxes involves extreme heat to bond the materials together. The temperatures may exceed 180°F, and most bacteria cannot survive this type of heat. When you place food in corrugated boxes, there’s barely any bacteria left in the corrugated fibres. As a result, these containers are clean, safe, and reliable for food storage.
In addition, corrugated boxes can inhibit bacterial growth. Scientific research has shown these boxes have a dramatic ability to maintain food freshness. Any bacteria will become trapped in the corrugated fibres, unable to access water or essential nutrients that extend their lifespan. As such, the harmful microorganisms will die before they reach the food.
Compared to other packaging materials, corrugated boxes can keep fruits and vegetables fresher for up to 3 days longer. You can also use corrugated boxes for packaging eggs, bread, and meats with similar effectiveness.

Q: Why is corrugated food packaging used?

A: Corrugated boxes are popular in the food packaging industry. Their usage is widespread, spanning from bakeries to grocery stores. Many businesses use corrugated boxes because of their unique characteristics, making them superior to other types of food packaging.
The advantages of corrugated food packaging boxes include:
Durability: Corrugated boxes are highly resilient. They can withstand long, complex transportation and delivery schedules.
Portability: A corrugated box is lightweight and easy to carry, whether you’re a packer, delivery driver, or customer.
Safety: Corrugated boxes prevent moisture from infiltrating food products. They protect foods more effectively than alternatives.
Versatility: Corrugated cardboard is highly adaptable. You can adjust the material into different shapes or sizes based on your needs.
Customization: A corrugated box is easy to print on and cheap to brand. You can design colourful, cool, and cute food packaging boxes.
Low Costs: Corrugated boxes are inexpensive and viable for businesses of any size. By ordering corrugated boxes in bulk, you save even more money.
Other forms of food packaging, like cartons or bags, may meet several of the above criteria. However, they aren’t as well-rounded as corrugated food packaging. Corrugated boxes appeal to businesses because they have many features that aren’t available in alternative packaging options.
